The Cracked Pot

A young man had two large pots that he used to fetch water from the stream. One pot had a crack in it, while the other was perfect. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot would arrive only half full while the perfect pot would deliver a full pot of water. For a full two years this went on daily, with the young man fetching only one and a half pots full of water to his house.

The perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments but the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection and felt miserable that it was only able to accomplish half of what it was supposed to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the young man one day by the stream.

"I am ashamed of myself because this crack on my body has caused water to leak out all the way back to your house."

The young man replied, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path but not on the side of the perfect pot? That's because I have noticed your flaw long ago and have planted flower seeds on your side of the path. Every day while we walk back, you are watering the seedlings. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my house. Without you being just the way you are, I would not have been able to enjoy the beauty of the flowers."

Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.
